Fr. O’Brien Leaves BK for New Appointment in December

Father Brian O’Brien, President of Bishop Kelley High School, has been appointed by Bishop David Konderla to be Pastor of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater. His last day serving the Bishop Kelley community will be December 21, 2017.

“There are definitely mixed emotions in this because I love Bishop Kelley High School,” said Father O’Brien. “I'm in the Diocese of Tulsa because of Bishop Kelley and this school was integral to my discernment to the priesthood in my years before seminary.” He was assigned to Bishop Kelley after his ordination to the priesthood 10 years ago.

St. Francis Xavier is building a new church, which is still under construction. Father O’Brien will officially begin his appointment there in January. “I am moved knowing that Bishop Konderla has the confidence in me to take on the task of building the Catholic community in Stillwater.” The dedication of the new building will be in February.

Having a priest as President of a Catholic school is surprisingly rare; only 2% of Catholic schools nationwide are so fortunate. This only makes the time Bishop Kelley has had under Father O’Brien’s guidance that much more of a blessing. “These years have been so full of joy,” said Father O’Brien, “and I'm blessed to have been a part of the lives of so many students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff.”

A national search for a new President of Bishop Kelley High School will begin soon.
