National Merit Recognition 2014
The National Merit Scholarship Program has now determined which of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2014 have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. Seven students from Bishop Kelley High School have advanced to Finalist standing, with two other students receiving the National Merit Commendation recognition.
The seven National Merit Finalists from Bishop Kelley are Erin Benedict, Wyatt Evans, Mary Flusche, Matt Hanisch, Mitch McKinstry, Anna Roberts, and Patrick Steichen. National Merit commended students include Emily Allen and Lauren Keaney.
About 1.5 million juniors across the United States took the National Merit Qualifying Exam in October 2013. The Semifinalists named in September represented approximately 1% of those who took the exam.
The selection of some 8,000 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress. Those who are named National Merit Scholars will be notified in March, with four major news media announcements to be made by NMSC in April, May, and July.
Bishop Kelley High School has more National Merit Finalists than any other private school in the state of Oklahoma and has had 40 Semifinalists over the past five years.
