Bishop Kelley High School offers a comprehensive guidance program for each student that involves academic advisement, personal counseling, and college advisement. In all aspects of the Guidance Program counselors take into account the developmental needs of each grade level and each student. Academic advisement begins early freshman year when each student meets with a counselor to formulate a four-year plan of study. At any time students may meet with their counselor to review current courses and plan for future ones. Personal counseling is offered to students in crisis or in need of assistance with personal issues. If the counselor determines that a student’s issues go beyond the scope of Bishop Kelley’s services, then a referral may be made to outside community agencies. College planning begins the moment students enter Bishop Kelley High School with the High School Essentials meeting. Students also have complete access to the College Resource Room and two college counselors. At the end of junior year, college counselors will meet with each student during the school day to begin more formal college planning discussions.
Senior "Student Questionnaires" are required to be filled out and submitted to the BK College counselors, Ms. Lawler or Ms. Cogan, before any letters of recommendation are written. This includes the Senior Essay Questions and, for reference, the Sample Resume. Available online are the Student Questionnaire and Parent Response forms. Please double check that you have met all of the curricular requirements for the various colleges or universities to which you intend to apply. Each school handles their requirements differently.
