All Choir Students Qualify for State Competition

All thirty-two members of the Bishop Kelley Choir qualified for State at the Solo and Ensemble Contest in Claremore.

“I'm really proud of these students,” said Choir Director Amy Junger. “They prepared the music outside of class and met together before and after school for rehearsals. I’m really proud of them!”

The program has grown significantly during Junger’s 12 years here. “My first year, I had only 19 students (including two boys). Choir this year has 46 students, men’s choir has 30, Advanced Choir has 17 and Jazz Choir has 16. Athletes and students from all clubs are represented in our choir, it’s awesome!

Five ensembles and six soloists were given superior ratings. “This is exciting because it’s my first OSSAA state solo competition,” said senior Carson Been. “Two years ago, my ensembles got superior ratings, we’re hoping to do that again!” Other Superior-rated soloists competing in state include Michael Hanisch, Camilo Gonzalez, Aleksei Vardaci, Marissa Wilson and Jillian Brining.

Choir will head to the State competition on April 18th.
